| EGCA Magazine ---- In any business, there is no greater
endorsement than a satisfied customer. For EGCA Affiliate
member Bio Clean Environmental Services, Inc.,
that most recently satisfied customer was Nick Renn, P.E.,
of the
City of Laguna Niguel. Earlier this year,
but after the traditional rainy season had ended,
Bio Clean completed installation of one of its patented nutrient
separation baffle boxes. The installed unit, news of which
was
reported in the June issue of EGCA Magazine, is located approximately
500 ft. upstream from a detention pond.
"
All that vegetation was a wetland," according to Bio
Clean's Greg
Kent. "Over the years, the pond had become loaded with
sediments,
making it extremely difficult to clean." At
the time of the installation, the City of Laguna Niguel's
Nick
Renn noted, "It will take a few months to see how effective
it is,
but we are expecting it to do well."
Renn's expectations were met, unexpectedly
a bit early, when, as Renn
noted in early September, "We inspected the baffle box,
and it had
three feet of silt in it. Now that's kind of unusual for
this time of
year. Certainly, we had no rainfall to speak of. But, as
it turns
out, there is a housing development under construction
upstream where
some new graded building pads were being installed.
" Prior to laying out the concrete foundation, the
builder saturated the dirt due to the area's expansive soil
conditions," Renn
explained. "The temporary dams the builder had constructed
to hold
the water broke, and all the dirt came downstream. Fortunately,
the
baffle box collected it."
" So I would say that
the baffle box installation is working very well
for us," Renn said. |
